Skiing for Children

Children's ski programsFrom a magic carpet & Merlin's Castle for kids to entertainment arcades for their parents, Whistler & Blackcomb are broadening the range of activities for visitors to their slopes. From the moment you spy Merlin on the slopes, you know the Mountains have done their homework. This friendly sorcerer is everywhere. He appears on the slopes in a billowing gown and pointy hat, warning skiers to slow down for the safety of kids, and you'll see him hanging around the children's adventure park.

A Magic Carpet
That's what we dubbed this ingenious 49 meter long people mover. Basically a skid free conveyor belt, it effortlessly moves kids up a bunny slope. It revolutionizes ski instruction for 3 & 4 year olds. Kids would often ski only 3 or 4 runs in an hour long class, but with this new device  they don't have to grapple with rope tows, T-bars or pommel lifts, so they don't get wet and cranky and they ski 10 to 12 runs in a 60 minute lesson.

Child skiingPagers For Parents
Free for parents with kids in the 3-and-under program.

A Kids Only Rental Shop
With rows of teeny snowboards and skis barely longer than boots, the pint-sized customers at Blackcomb have their own shop. Besides 100 tiny boards and 200 pairs of skis in rental alone, we have a ski shop full of kid's paraphernalia, from baggy boarder pants to custom-sized goggles, T-shirts and more.

Kid's Adventure Camp
Whistler Mountain has it's Children's Learning Center at the mid station of the Village Gondola, a rare on mountain experience for kids, while Blackcomb has it's Kid's Adventure Camp two-thirds of the way up the mountain, at the bottom of Catskinner Chair. Here, tucked between natural gullies you'll find a cross between Mother nature & Disneyland. Kids aged 5 - 12 have been known to spend the entire day exploring the three theme trails in this 6 hectare netherworld. Since kids naturally love to be in hollows, crooks and away from open spaces, the natural contours of the forest were used, and we added a medieval theme focused around a castle in the middle of a forest. The castle is located on Merlin's trail. On Harry Horstman Sea to Sky railway you'll find old mining artifacts, such as carts and a railway water tower, plus historically accurate pioneers. The coolest element is the castle which is a 14 meters high wonder covered with stone resembling castle blocks. Two towers and a drawbridge complete the marvel. And like the best of Disney, it's not static. Each tower disguises a 20 meter long tube that kids can slide, twist and barrel down. Inside the castle walls are characters, leading kids on all sorts of madcap adventures.

Kids Night Out
This is a new après-ski program for 5 - 12 year olds. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 - 9 pm the kids are treated to dinner and a host of themes. The Children's Après program, 3 times a week, lets you drop your youngster off from 3:30 - 5:30 pm for a session of stories, games, crafts and a snack while parents can head off to their favorite pub (or do some shopping).
