If you're new in town and you've done the beach,
lost a bit of skin on the Valley Trail, hiked Blackcomb Mountain
and sampled the wavy gravy action of whitewater rafting, it's
time you tried ATVing. The concept of using an ATV (All Terrain
Vehicle) is simple. Think along the lines of dirt biking,
allowing for 4 plush wheels and a larger and more comfortable
seat. The machines actually resemble an enlarged version of a
Tonka toy, albeit with considerable more torque. Tours involve a Brandywine Creek warm-up followed by a bit of bush whacking, or a trip up 4,500 feet to the Top of the World or through scenic Marshall Lake. The Marshall Lake tour is perhaps the most challenging of the three, while the Brandywine Tour is ideal for families and kids who often ride free. There are trails that explore Blackcomb Mountain's backcountry where you'll find spectacular views of glaciers, peaks, wildlife, and Whistler Village far below. You'll also see the sights and day workings of this world-class ski area. You can tour wildly beautiful Callaghan Valley on a half day adventure and ride through old growth forests and climb to breathtaking views of glacial headwaters and rugged peaks. Keep a lookout for alpine flowers, rainforests, mountain lakes and waterfalls. Experience is not a prerequisite for riding an ATV. The machines are extremely simple to operate, although they can be challenging. ATV can offer you an exciting romp through Whistler's backcountry, and if you're lucky you'll get as close as you'll ever get to the region's wide array of wildlife, including eagles, hawks, coyote, deer, marmots and bear. ATV are very popular among those who desire action and adventure role playing while screaming down a dirt road or trail at speeds up to 40 km/h (55 mph) on a loud machine with big engines. Professional guides pay careful attention to all riders, all the time, choosing trails and speeds to suite your ability. All guides hold detailed knowledge of the Whistler area, its history, geography and people. They teach you how to operate your fully automatic ATV, they will assess your ability and personally coach you to build confidence and knowledge in ATV driving. There is no rush & no pressure, you'll learn and ride at your own pace. For optimum visibility and eye protection request a pair of goggles from your tour operator. They will usually provide you with all the gear including, boots, full face helmets, jackets, gloves and rain gear if necessary. Tours are open for singles and doubles and jeans & jackets are typically recommended in rain & mud conditions. It goes without saying that you will need a post tour shower, regardless of the weather.
